Paltsi
Paltsi is a summer destination in Southeastern Pelion, opposite the islands of the Northern Sporades. It is a quiet beach with crystal clear waters and is suitable for quiet vacation. It is far away 13 km from Argalasti and 54 km from Volos.
Remains of early Christian times and other traces from the Middle Ages have been identified in the area, near the area of the Monastery of Taxiarches (1776), work of the Pelion protagonist Stergios Basdekis. The monastery of Agios Taxiarchis, Al. Papadiamantis called it the "balcony of the Aegean" and celebrates on September 5 and 6. The area is suitable for walks, near and far distances through ravines with running water and rich vegetation
A remote option is to follow the path to Lafkos (about 2.5 hours) and before you reach the destination, you will meet the beautiful monastery of Agios Athanasios, built in 1795 also by Stergios Basdekis.
Legend is the shipwreck of P.L.M. 24 (Paris Lion Mediterane) located on the shores of East Pelion on the beach of Paltsi and belongs to the modern period. Specifically, it was commissioned by Germans, dates back to the Second World War and belonged to the French railways. The etymological versions of area’s name, are either from the Old Slavic balto (swamp), or from the Turkish Balci or balcilik, which mean "beekeeper" and "beekeeping" respectively.
